LGBTQ+ people and allies across the country are celebrating Pride Month in a variety of ways including marches, parades, street fairs and movie nights.

Pride Month is held once a year in remembrance of the June 1969 Stonewall Uprising. The rebellion was a series of events between police and LGBTQ+ protesters that stretched over six days at the popular New York gay bar, Stonewall Inn.

On June 28, 1970, the one year anniversary of the Stonewall, the first Pride marches were held in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago, according to the Library of Congress. Thousands of LGBTQ+ people commemorated Stonewall and demonstrated for equal rights.

Pride Month continues today and is meant to celebrate the efforts to achieve equality, justice and opportunity for the LGBTQ+ community.

Here is a list of local Pride events happening in and near Tulare County throughout June.

Community members of all ages gathered at Valley Strong Ballpark on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, to participate in The Source LGBT Center’s annual AIDS walk and Pride Festival.
