TOWN OF FRANKLIN, Wis. (WKBT) -- Two are injured following a two-vehicle crash in rural Viroqua Saturday evening.

According to the Vernon County Sheriff's Office, a deputy sheriff came upon a serious two-vehicle crash in the Town of Franklin at 5:51 p.m.

38-year-old Brett Burkum of Viroqua veered into the wrong lane, crashing into a car driven by 20-year-old Chloe Billington of Soldiers Grove.

Billington was seriously injured and taken to Gundersen Health System in La Crosse. Burkum was also injured and taken to Vernon Memorial Healthcare in Viroqua.

The crash led to part of US Highway 14 being shut down for around 5 and a half hours.

Alcohol is considered a factor in the crash. The Sheriff's Office says formal charges against Burkum will be sought through Vernon County's District Attorney.

    The crash remains under investigation.
