The average gas prices in Virginia rose nearly 9 cents in the past week, continuing a trend over the past weeks of prices heading back upward, according to GasBuddy.
The average of $3.30 is just under 20 cents higher than they were a month ago. Despite rising gas prices, however, diesel has continued to drop, falling 5.9 cents in the past week to where it stands at $4.19.
The national average price of gasoline has fallen 0.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.40, according to GasBuddy. The national average is up 7.8 cents from a month ago.
"Motorists in some areas may be on the receiving end of good news, while others may not as we hit the second half of refinery maintenance season," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. "You never know what the closing moments will look like, and motorists could be in for a dramatic ride if issues develop."
