Iron Range Engineering senior all-star games set for tonight

VIRGINIA—Minnesota North-Mesabi Range is set to host its annual Iron Range Engineering senior boys’ and girls’ all-star games tonight, with the girls tipping off at 5 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

Thirty athletes from across the Iron Range and beyond on the girls side are set to compete while 23 boys are rostered for the late game.

For the girls game, players on the “home” team include Suzy Aubrey and Hali Savela of Mountain Iron-Buhl, Marissa Anderson of Rock Ridge, Faith Zganjar of Cherry, Tresa Baumgard of Chisholm, Grace LaTourell and Hannah Penke from Ely, Helen Koch from North Woods and Jaci Rebrovich from Nashwauk-Keewatin. Other teammates include Cromwell-Wright’s Emaleigh Olesiak, Floodwood’s Alice Irvine, Deer River’s Ella Storlie, Cloquet’s Leilani Fonoti, International Falls’ Lola Valenzuela and Carlton/Wrenshall’s Megan Matarelli.

Local players rostered on the “away” team include Mesabi East’s Olivia Forsline, Mountain Iron-Buhl’s Jordan Zubich and Gabby Lira, Hibbing’s Kate Toewe, Ely’s Sarah Visser, Rock Ridge’s Emma Lamppa, North Woods’ River Cheney and Nashwauk-Keewatin’s Claire Clusiau. Other teammates include Warroad’s Faith Lilly, Deer River’s Constance Bowstring, South Ridge’s Svea Snickers, Cromwell-Wright’s Mya Gronner and Kyra Granholm, Marshall’s Ada Skafte and Silver Bay’s Izzy Carey.

Locally, the “home” team for the boys’ includes Rock Ridge’s Indi Romero, Pier Povoledo and Jalen Miskowitz, as well as Grand Rapids’ Morgan MacCloud-Carlson, Chris Roy and Wylee Dauenbaugh. Other players include Floodwood’s Deacon Laine, Moose Lake/Willow River’s Luke Dewey, Fond du Lac Ojibwe’s Anthony Reynolds and Jordell Brown and Denfeld’s Aidan Altonu.

For the “away” team, local players include Chisholm’s Trent Forsline and Phil Barnard, Grand Rapids’ Colton Johnson and Rock Ridge’s Casey Aune, Ryan Herberg and Max Williams. Other teammates include Cook County’s Recko Helmerson-Skildum, Moose Lake Willow River’s Nolan Nelson and Adam Neumann, Fond du Lac Ojibwe’s Allen DeFoe and Denfeld’s Ethan Starstead and Deon’tae Persaud-Davis.

Area hoops fans are encouraged to attend both games to help close out the basketball season and support area seniors.
