All-Pro DT Geno Atkins | Film Observation
Former Bengals defensive tackle might not be returning to Cincinnati in 2021, but it does sound like he wants to play. The 33-year-old has a checkup with Dallas Cowboys team doctor Dan Cooper later this month according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. Cooper performed the surgery on Atkins' torn rotator cuff. He's expected to be fully cleared by July 1. "Multiple teams" are interested in signing Atkins according to the report. The eight-time Pro Bowler has spent his first 11 seasons in Cincinnati. The Bengals released him in March. Atkins only appeared in eight games last season before having surgery to repair a shoulder injury he suffered in training camp. He was ineffective due to the injury, finishing with just one tackle. Cincinnati selected Atkins in the fourth-round (120th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft. He's one of the best players in franchise history, but he'll likely be suiting up for another team this season.
