For Pet's Sake: Poisoning and toxic exposure
MISSOULA, Mont. — Poisoning or toxin exposure is a frequent issue in the veterinary medial profession. Poisons come in all shapes and sizes from seemingly benign plants to accidental overdosing of medication. In any instance where you are concerned that you pet may have been exposed to a toxin or poison, veterinary professionals should ALWAYS be contacted. In fact there is a pet poison helpline that is staffed by trained professionals who can offer assistance. The ASPCA also has an Animal Poison Control Center. Both numbers are available online through a quick google search. It is important to contact one of these centers OR your veterinarian BEFORE providing any intervention at home, like the induction of vomiting. I say this because sometimes what may seem as helpful intervention can do more harm than good!
