Police: Verona woman punched in the face by 3 car thieves while pulling into her driveway

By Chris Keating and Lanette Espy,

Police say a woman was punched in the face and on her head while in her driveway Sunday in Verona after she was approached by three men who stole her car, a white Porsche.

Officials say the assault happened on Floyd Road around 3:30 p.m., near Verona Park. They say the men demanded the woman's car keys then punched her in the face until she was on the ground. They say the men then fled in the woman's Porsche and the vehicle they arrived in.

Their vehicle was spotted by police in the area of Bloomfield and Mount Prospect avenues. Police say officers tried to chase the vehicle but had to stop because of the suspect's reckless driving.

Neighbors along Floyd Road told News 12 New Jersey that this is concerning because the incident turned violent. One neighbor said it’s not the first time a car has been stolen from a driveway in that same neighborhood.

Verona police are reminding residents to be aware of their surroundings and call the police if they see something suspicious.

This investigation is ongoing and anyone with information should contact the Verona Police Department at 973-239-5000 .
