The Vermilion County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed with Neuhoff Media that in the early hours of Sunday morning, May 28th; an inmate gained access to a maintenance area inside a wall where the pipes for the jail’s plumbing are kept. From there, he was able to break an exterior window; and then attempted to climb out to the ground using bedsheets that were tied together.
However, the inmate was on the fourth floor, and the length of the tied bedsheets only allowed him as far as the third floor. The inmate then jumped, landed on concrete severely injuring both legs, and was quickly apprehended. He was later taken for surgery to a hospital in Champaign.
