Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders was recently joined by Arkansas Secretary of Agriculture Wes Ward to induct 36 farms into the Arkansas Century Farm Program. The Arkansas Century Farm Program recognizes Arkansas farms of 10 acres or more owned by the same family for at least 100 years. The Arkansas Department of Agriculture established the program in 2012 to highlight the contributions of these families to the agriculture industry as well as our state. Tuesday, Howard Memorial Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting. The board approved a motion to purchase the Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound machine in the amount of $295,679 dollars. This machine offers solutions across the entire breast care pathway, and it’s designed to detect cancer in dense breast tissue that may be missed by mammography. The Board also approved another motion to replace the EKG machines with newer GE Healthcare’s Mac 7 resting ECG System models in the amount of $22,000 dollars. All were in favor of the motion.

The new owners of the railway, Canadian Pacific, have turned down requests to stop train traffic during parade hours, causing all parade routes to be changed, including the annual Christmas Parade of Lights hosted by the Mena/Polk County Chamber of Commerce. “Although the Chamber was happy with the new route established two years ago, they have no choice but to adhere to the new policies of the railroad to ensure safety of parade participants and watchers,” stated Chamber Executive Director Melanie Wade.
