Vancouver Police conducted their third SW Washington joint Stolen Vehicle Operation with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, January 26.
The operation ran concurrent with other law enforcement agencies in the Portland metro area who ran their own SVO mission.
VPD says their mission included the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the several subjects were arrested. Officials say officers located and stopped a vehicle that was involved in a drive-by shooting in the early morning hours on January 26 in Vancouver. The vehicle was seized pending a search warrant authorization, which is being investigated by the VPD Crime Reduction Unit.
Police say the driver was placed under arrest for drive-by shooting and an outstanding warrant. A later search of the vehicle used in the shooting recovered a suspected stolen Glock, several gun magazines, and ammunition.
During the operation, a Vancouver resident called 911 to report their vehicle had just been stolen. Officers spotted the vehicle which fled into Portland. Portland Police were able to successfully stop the vehicle and take the driver into custody.
VPD says they will continue to conduct future SVO in an effort to reduce vehicle thefts and crimes associated with stolen vehicles.
