VANCOUVER Wash. (KPTV) - Washington state opened its newest Criminal Justice Training Center in Vancouver on Friday.

The new center is part of an expansion of Washington’s network of regional training facilities, and state officials say it will help accelerate the process for police and law-enforcement recruits to be trained and certified.

One such center has already opened in the Tri-Cities area, giving people who weren’t able to travel to Kent, Wash. the chance to become an officer.

Washington Governor Jay Inslee was present for the center’s ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday.

“This training center is going to allow more people, easier access to training, which means more police officers in the state of Washington,” Inslee said.

The Vancouver center will train 30 students per class and offer two classes a year.

Inslee said the state is also working to get a center built in Snohomish or Skagit county.
