A Vancouver teenager was arrested Tuesday morning after a sheriff’s deputy clocked him driving more than 100 miles per hour, according to the Clark County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 2 a.m., a deputy tried to stop the driver – Tyler Stout, 18 – on Northeast Padden Parkway in Vancouver.
Stout eluded the police by driving more than 130 miles per hour, making it unsafe for the deputy to continue the pursuit, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.
Other local law enforcement spotted the car, and Stout ran from police again, later apparently ditching the car. A deputy saw someone matching his description walking near the 15500 block of Northeast 85th Street. Stout fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said. He was found hiding behind a car and, after another foot chase, arrested and booked at the Clark County Jail.
This high-speed chase comes after an 18-year-old passenger died Sunday night when a speeding driver crashed a car into a tree in the 3000 block of Columbia Way. The 21-year-old driver was ejected from the car and taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, the Vancouver Police Department said. The driver and passenger haven’t been publicly identified. Investigators said alcohol and speed likely caused that crash.
Earlier that day, in Portland, police said alcohol and speed also probably led a Mercedes sedan to crash off the Morrison Bridge onto Southeast Water Avenue, killing the driver and passenger. The two men have not been publicly identified.
