Beshear announces nearly $850,000 for rubber mulch projects
Gov. Andy Beshear announced May 13 that $847,878 will be awarded to 23 counties, including Perry, for projects using recycled rubber. Projects range from park benches, picnic tables, landscaping, parking curbs, poured-in-place surfacing projects for walking trails, poured-in-place running track and poured-in-place playgrounds that use recycled waste tires, according to a statement from the governor's office.

Hazard didn’t have any trouble in the opening round of the 54th District Tournament against Buckhorn Monday as the Bulldogs rolled to a 15-0 win in three innings of play. Shrinking funds causes growing concern for child advocacy groups
Local and state organizations aiding crime victims, such as rape crisis centers, domestic violence shelters and child advocacy centers, are raising concerns over a significant funding decrease spanning multiple years. Officials at Hazard’s child advocacy center, The Care Cottage, are warning that the decrease, which could affect the center’s budget by 13 percent to 14 percent, will limit extended services like case management.
