Van Meter girls soccer starts hot

The Van Meter girls soccer team got its season off to a strong start after opening its season against West Marshall on March 27.

The Bulldogs defeated the Trojans 10-0 behind a strong first half in which Van Meter scored eight goals.

Van Meter was led by junior Eden Moore, who scored five goals in the win, also assisting on two, while sophomore Katie Vaught followed with three goals.

Senior Mary Kelly and sophomore Grace Garrison each had the remaining two goals, but both were also led in assists as well. Garrison led the team with four assists while Kelly had three of her own.

Junior Regan Bernhardt was in goal, finishing the game with a clean sheet.

The Bulldogs will next compete against Greene County at 4:30 p.m. March 30 at Van Meter High School.
