Methodist Hospitals and Indiana University Northwest help the community spring into good health with free medical screenings at Spring Wellness Fair
With dozens of booths staffed with excellent and attentive medical professionals, Methodist Hospitals in conjunction with Indiana University Northwest hosted its 2024 Spring Community Wellness Fair on Saturday. The fair held at Indiana University Northwest’s Savannah Gymnasium was also aided by Marram Health and Community HealthNet. By working together these local organizations provided the community with information on health as well as providing free health screenings.
Gary and Hammond mayors respond to recent vandalism
The mayors of the Region's two largest cities are trying to crack down on vandalism. On social media, Hammond Mayor Tom McDermott Jr. said he's closing the Martin Luther King Park basketball courts, after the courts' benches were vandalized for a second time in two weeks. He says they'll remain closed "until the vandals have been identified and turned into the Hammond Police [Department]."

On April 8, Chesterton High School (CHS) students had the opportunity to view a solar eclipse during their fourth block classes. For students who turned in permission slips to watch this astronomical event, classes were paused for the viewing. Students and staff members were given glasses to observe the eclipse from the parking lots. As students participated in this momentous occasion, the speakers blared the 1983 hit “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler.
