MCALLEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — An officer with the McAllen Police Department was arrested and resigned from his position over allegations of domestic abuse.

Mateo Salinas III, who’d been with the department for six years, resigned effective immediately after his arrest on the allegations.

According to police, two of Salinas’ relatives claim the officer assaulted his wife.

Salinas’ own mother and sister reported the assault on August 31.

On Tuesday, his wife was interviewed by police and she told officers her husband assaulted her on April 17.

The department says the assault allegation against Salinas were presented to a local magistrate who issued a warrant and charged him with assault.

According to Hidalgo County Jail records, Salinas was booked into jail Friday, September 6.

Records show Salinas was released from jail the same day.
