Starting at 8:30am this morning, Valentine area community volunteers showed up to help with Planting Day on Main Street in Valentine.
Representatives from the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum were on hand to help coordinate the planting of over 1,200 shrubs and perennials and 25+ trees in the bump outs at intersections and the remaining mid-block sidewalk planter locations to complete the finished look of Valentine’s reconstructed Main Street. City employees were helping with coordination.
Numerous high school students and several private citizens turned out. Plants to be put at each intersection were laid out before the crews began planting.
When completed, the vegetation will add to the appeal of Main Street for both local residents and travelers.
These Tree and landscape improvements are funded in part by a matching grant funds awarded by the Nebraska Statewide Arboretum in September of 2022.
The community is invited to a big celebration of the completion of Main Street on June 9th in front of City Hall. Stay tuned for more details.
