Valdez, AK, Report: What Is “Alaskan Velvet?” Hint: It’s This… And It’s Great…
On Tuesday, we got out to have a look in a northern zone I’d never been to with Pulseline Adventure. We skied 2 runs in good, wind-buffed powder in some high-quality ski terrain. I wanted more, but the wind sent us back to our staging station. We all took...

Cordova Times intern named CHS valedictorian
Cordova Times intern Mhikee (Kyi) Gasmen was named the Class of 2024 Valedictorian by Cordova Junior/Senior High School (CHS) last week. A raised Cordovan, Gasmen has been reporting and writing for The Cordova Times for six months while finishing his senior year at CHS. Some of his most notable work has been his holiday coverage at Mt. Eccles Elementary School, his weekly Around Town events roundup and everyone’s favorite Take A Break puzzle section, and his piece on how the Exxon Valdez Oil Spill still impacts Cordova’s youth 35 years later. Gasmen sought out an internship at the newspaper because of his interest in both familiarizing himself with the stories that surround him in the community, and because of his staunch belief in the mission of journalism to inform and service the public.

Valdez, Alaska, Report: Impeccable Snow & Big Sluff on an Amazing Shoup Glacier Island
Monday was the 2nd day of my 2024 Alaska heli-ski season. The day started cloudy and slowly started clearing. By 1:30pm, we were in the air. We bumped out to the Shoup Glacier, a place I spent 1 month camping and skiing with a buncha crazy Aussies back in 2014.
