The cause of a Wetmore St. fire that displaced 4 adults, 6 children is under investigation

Observer-Dispatch

Ten people including six children have been displaced after a fire swept through a multi-family home in Utica Sunday.

At 3:35 p.m. City of Utica Fire Department crews responded to 518 Wetmore St. where they saw heavy fire coming from the second floor of the home, spreading into the attic.

Crews stretched three hose lines into the house and cut a hole in the roof for ventilation while they worked to extinguish the fire, which was ultimately confined to a porch on the second floor, one of the rooms on that floor and the attic.

All of the residents of the Wetmore Street home made it out safely, the fire department said.

Late Sunday, volunteers from the Central and Northern New York Chapter of the American Red Cross said they'd provided temporary shelter, food and clothing to the 10 people who were displaced: four adults and six children, including a two-year-old and an infant.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
