Utica Roundabout

Crews working on the roundabout in Utica are nearing the finish line.

A tweet went out Tuesday from the Illinois Department of Transportation saying the temporary roundabout at U.S. 6 and Illinois 178 is now permanent. Workers are putting the finishing touches on the $2.4 million project that hopefully provides a safer and more efficient way for drivers to get to Starved Rock State Park and other attractions. Unlike the Peru roundabout, the Utica one won't feature a fountain and landscaping.

The new intersection saw plenty of traffic over the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Utica Fire Chief Ben Brown says he didn't get a single call about problems at the new roundabout.
