Police arrest Utica man after dispute

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Police arrested a Utica man after he threatened a man with a gun and broke several possessions within a home.

Police arrived to the 900 block of Churchill Avenue in Utica on Monday, March 27 after a call of an argument between two people. During the argument, 40-year-old Oscar Boykin of Utica threatened the other person with a handgun, then proceeded to break items inside the home. The resident of the house called 911 and Boykin fled.

Utica Police apprehended Boykin a short distance away from the scene but did not find the gun on him. A search of the area eventually uncovered the handgun near some garbage bags on the sidewalk. Thermal imaging found that the gun had been handled recently, which gave police cause to determine that it was Boykin’s gun.

Boykin was then arrested and transported to the Utica Police Department. He is currently being charged with Third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, Second-degree Menacing and Criminal Mischief.
