Police arrest Utica man in hotel robbery case

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – Utica Police have arrested a man in connection with a robbery with a knife in the city on Wednesday, March 22.

Police say 55-year-old John Terry of Utica entered the Double Tree Hotel on Lafayette Street at around midnight on Wednesday, March 22 and demanded money from the clerk. When told there was no money on hand, the clerk gave Terry cash from his own pocket. Terry then demanded the clerk to open the safe. However, when the clerk told him he did not have the combination, Terry left the hotel and ran in an unknown direction.

Photographs of Terry were then submitted to all law enforcement offices, where he was immediately recognized, as he was on parole supervision. Terry was then spotted at approximately 11 am on Wednesday, March 23 walking down Genesee Street, where he was apprehended.

Terry is being charged with first-degree Robbery and third-degree Criminal Possession of a Weapon, both felonies.
