Union Man Charged With Firing Gun At Residence

A Union man has been charged after he allegedly fired a shotgun at a neighbor’s residence.

Mark W. Vanderpool, 33, was taken into custody Sunday and held at the Franklin County Adult Detention Center on a $50,000 bond.

He faces two counts of unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree domestic assault.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies responded to the 1200 block of Schuchart Road around 8 p.m. for a peace disturbance with shots fired.

Deputies were advised the suspect might be located inside a camper trailer on the property.

Vanderpool had been involved in a domestic assault with a female earlier in the day and threatened to shoot her during the confrontation, according to the sheriff’s office. The victim left the residence after that.

The victim returned later that day and Vanderpool exited the trailer, allegedly firing rounds from a shotgun at the residence.

The victim’s neighbors told deputies they heard shots strike a stock trailer nearby.

When deputies searching the trailer Vanderpool came from, they found spent ammunition and evidence of a physical altercation.

Vanderpool was taken into custody.
