The Union Grove Volunteer Fire Department responded to a poultry house fire Friday night in northeast Covington County.

According to the UGVFD, the initial report of the fire came in about approximately 8 p.m. Firefighters arriving at the scene discovered two structures fully engulfed in flames. Engines and tankers were staged to protect surrounding buildings. The poultry structures are reported to be total losses.

Union Grove firefighters sent a request for mutual aid for water supply and extra engines. Babbie Volunteer Fire Department, Rose Hill Volunteer Fire Department, and the Elba Fire Department each responded to the scene. UGVFD expressed appreciation to those departments as well as to Jay Spurlin who assisted with the running of trucks, allowing firefighters to handle other duties.

“It is a good feeling to know that other departments answer the call when help is needed. This is what the brotherhood and sisterhood of firefighters are about, helping each other when help is needed and showing up to assist even if your department wasn’t part of the call. Thank you to all who were involved with the call,” said UGVFD officials.
