West Side Neighborhood Watch
WEST AKRON: Police were called to a fight at a South Rhodes Avenue home April 19 when a man stated he was being evicted from his apartment due to complaints from his upstairs neighbor, and he verbally confronted her outside the building. He said he happened to have a hammer in his hand because he was using it while moving out. The neighbor was on the phone with her son, who saw the hammer and came to the scene with two other people and a physical fight ensued. One of the parties reportedly waved a gun outside the home of the man being evicted. Police separated the parties, and due to conflicting statements, no charges were filed. While officers were there, the father of the neighbor’s son arrived and made threats to the man being evicted. Another fight broke out between the two men and officers were able to separate them, but they continued attempting to fight. Another man joined in the scuffle and police charged the three of them with disorderly conduct and took them to the Summit County Jail. One man was taken to a facility for a mental health evaluation first.
