43rd Annual Old Mill Run Race Results
Columbia, CA — Hundreds were in Columbia State Historic Park on Saturday morning for the Old Mill Run, which has been going strong since the late seventies. Money from the event benefits the Tuolumne County Community Christmas Eve Dinner and the Wings Fund which helps local families with children needing medical care out of the county. The event kicked off with multiple kids’ runs held during the eight o’clock hour along Main Street in the state park, and the gun fired for the two-mile and 10-k events at 9 am.
Calaveras’ 75-game MLL winning streak ends with 6-4 loss to Sonora
All things must come to an end. After winning 75 consecutive Mother Lode League games, the Calaveras High School softball team suffered its first league loss since 2018. The Red Hawks lost to the Sonora Wildcats 6-4 on Friday night in Sonora. With this loss, Calaveras and Sonora are now tied for first place in the Mother Lode League standings, both with 8-1 records.
No Computers Or Internet At Sonora Main Library
Sonora, CA — Those wanting to use the computers at the Sonora Main Library will have to wait until the end of next week. PG&E has notified Tuolumne County Public Library officials that the main library will be without power next week for three days, from Monday, April 22nd, to Wednesday, April 24th. Utility crews will be working to complete a generator project for the facility. However, the main library will not be closed for the work. Instead, library officials say it will “remain open during this time as long as it is safe for both patrons and staff.”
Farmers Market In Standard Has New Operator
Standard, CA — The Tuolumne County Resource Conservation District will be opening a new Standard Farmer’s Market starting next month and running into October. The group made the decision because the former Peaceful Valley Farmers Market was not planning to operate this year. The new market will be set up in the same parking lot on Peaceful Valley Road in East Sonora. It will be open every Friday from 4-8 pm from May 3 through October 18.
Angels Camp’s Mark Twain Statue To Temporarily Relocate For Restoration
Angels Camp, CA — One of the most recognizable aspects of Utica Park in Angels Camp will be removed for a few months as it goes through a restoration. The Mark Twain statue was donated to the city by film giant Warner Brothers in 1944 when the Frederic March film, The Adventures of Mark Twain, premiered at the Angels Camp Theatre. City leaders say the statue has served as a timeless symbol of literary excellence and community pride.

Update: Structure Fire In Sonora
Update at 5:36 p.m.: Fire crews have contained an afternoon blaze on Rough and Ready Trail off Jamestown Road. CAL Fire dispatch reports that the garage was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived at the property located in the 19900 block of Rough and Ready Trail near Panorama Place. They added that the fire did not spread to nearby vegetation. Reportedly, one resident and a dog were able to flee the home before firefighters arrived. CAL Fire noted that the house was detached from the garage and suffered no damage.
PG&E Will Be Inspecting Equipment by Helicopter
Sonora, CA — Pacific Gas & Electric will have helicopters flying low in the region on Friday, April 19, inspecting electric towers and poles. PG&E spokesperson Jeff Smith reports, “You can expect to see and hear helicopters flying close to the power lines. They may hover in the same location for brief periods of time. While patrols are underway, you may also see PG&E and/or contractor trucks in the area.”
