Melissa Benoist ( Supergirl , The Girls on the Bus, Glee ) has joined the cast of Kevin Williamson’s upcoming family drama, Netflix announced Wednesday.
Inspired by true events, the series “dives into the flawed Buckley family as their attempts to retain control of their crumbling North Carolina fishing empire drive them to increasingly dangerous means to keep themselves afloat,” reads the official logline.
Rafael L. Silva ( 9-1-1: Lone Star ) also has joined the cast as Shawn Wilson, a bartender who works for the Buckleys and who’s in possession of a secret that could destroy the family.
The series also added:
* Jake Weary ( Animal Kingdom ) as Cane Buckley, Harlan’s only son. Per the official description: “Cane has a complicated relationship with his father but never stops trying to do the right thing by his dad and can’t seem to say no to him… Cane likes the money his family business affords him, a Band-Aid for the life he got instead of the life he wanted.”
* Humberly González ( Ginny & Georgia ) as Jenna Tate, a journalist who returns to her hometown to take care of her ailing father and runs into Cane, her high school boyfriend who hasn’t gotten over her.
* Brady Hepner ( The Black Phone ) as Diller Hopkins, Bree’s son, who lives with Bree’s ex-husband. Diller idolizes his grandfather, Harlan, but resents his mother.
* Zach Roerig ( The Vampire Diaries , As the World Turns ) as Troy… and that’s all we know about him!
* Gerardo Celasco ( How to Get Away With Murder , Devil in Ohio ) as DEA Agent Marcus Sanchez.
* Michael Gaston ( The Leftovers , The Mentalist ) as Sheriff Clyde Porter.
The Waterfront will be written and executive-produced by Williamson ( Dawson’s Creek , The Vampire Diaries ); the first season will consist of eight episodes. Marcos Siega ( The Following , The Vampire Diaries , Dawson’s Creek ) will direct the first two installments.
