Nick Saban was all about the big picture Wednesday when it came to his Crimson Tide.

The Alabama coach met with ESPN’s Heather Dinich and talked about the expectations he and the fans have moving forward.

“Oh, we’re Full Metal Jacket because we’re no doubt disappointed in the very things that you pointed out,” Saban told Dinich about how much work is being done in Tuscaloosa to improve from last year. “And I don’t disagree. As a coach, you’re always trying to get your team to play to their full potential, and I really don’t feel like maybe we got that done … You search for reasons, why and how can you fix it? We have two new coordinators, some new energy, new enthusiasm, new ideas are all beneficial. Hopefully they’ll help us get these guys to play with a little bit more … discipline to be able to execute on a more consistent basis.”

Dinich reports Saban acknowledges last year’s 11-2 season what not what he and fans expect, while also understanding Georgia has proven to be the best program over the last two years.

The comment from Saban certainly points to a re-calibration of the program with new assistants Tommy Rees and Kevin Steele.

Its not the first time Saban has made the “Full Metal Jacket” comment.

Last season, leading into the opener against Utah State, the Alabama coach made a similar comment.

“We continue this week to work on other opponents who do different things,” Saban said, per WVUA. “But not really starting on that until Friday full metal jacket.”
