Stretch of Route 22 to be closed overnight this weekend due to road work

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police are giving drivers a heads up ahead of an upcoming overnight weekend road closure on Route 22. Starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday, roadwork on Route 22 both eastbound and westbound will cause delays in the affected work area between Route 33 and Route 191, state police said in a news release.

Montgomery River Bridge to reopen to traffic

Montgomery, Pa. — PennDOT announced the Montgomery River Bridge, which carries Route 54 over the West Branch Susquehanna River, will open to traffic by midnight tonight. Drivers should anticipate minor traffic impacts as the contractor, J.D. Eckman, Inc., completes final construction activities associated with the rehabilitation project. On Tuesday, Sept. 22 and Wednesday, Sept. 23, drivers can expect single lane conditions with flagging between First Street in Montgomery and River Road in Muncy Creek Township, during daylight hours. The bridge, which was built in 1938, was closed in August while the contractor removed a portion of the bridge deck and applied a new concrete overlay. Additional work included curb repairs, replacement of joint seals, approach work, and line painting. Drivers should be alert, slow down, expect delays in travel, and drive with caution. J.D. Eckman, Inc. is the prime contractor for this $1.9 million bridge rehabilitation project. Work includes removal of a portion of the existing concrete deck overlay and replacement with a new concrete overlay, complete curb repairs, replacement of expansion joint seal materials to protect the ends of the existing steel beams from water and salt, minor bridge approach roadway work, and line painting. Montoursville, Pa. — Lane restrictions will begin this week on I-180 in both directions in Muncy Creek Township, Lycoming County, for bridge survey work. Starting today, the consultant will begin survey work on I-180 westbound bridges between Exit 10 (Main Street) and Muncy Creek, located approximately one mile west of the Exit 13 (Route 405/Muncy/Hughesville) interchange. Survey work will begin on the westbound bridges starting with the bridge spanning Main Street (Route 2014) and progress westward to Clarkstown Road (Route 2061), Penn Street (Route 2044), Route 405, and Muncy Creek. Survey activities will then shift to the eastbound lanes, starting with the bridge over Muncy Creek and continuing east to the bridge over Main Street. Drivers can expect alternating lane restrictions between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., weather permitting. This work is being performed in preparation for a future bridge rehabilitation project. A new bill would address Pennsylvania turnpike toll rate signage

(The Center Square) – A proposal introduced by a Democrat serving in the state House aims to make changes to signage on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. “How much a customer will be charged should never be a mystery or come as a surprise,” state Rep. Joe Ciresi of Montgomery County wrote in a co-sponsorship memo released on Monday. “This should also be true for the Pennsylvania Turnpike, where drivers currently have no information available while they’re driving about how much their trip will cost.” “Motorists should have clear, readily visible information about the toll they will be charged, particularly because tolls are determined by vehicle classification, including axle count and, for certain tolls, vehicle height,” Ciresi continued. The lawmaker said he plans to introduce legislation which would require the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission to install and maintain standardized signage at each toll road entrance and at appropriate intervals displaying the applicable rates for each vehicle classification in a manner, he said, is “readily visible and understandable to motorists.” While this legislation has not yet been formally introduced, it is not the first time Ciresi has proposed reforms to the Pennsylvania Turnpike.
