Bobcats Clip T-Birds on Quiet Day at Plate

The Tumwater softball team couldn’t manage much of anything against Aberdeen’s ace, and the Bobcats took advantage to beat the T-Birds 3-2 in a 2A EvCo matchup on Monday.

The pitching matchup between Aberdeen’s Lilly Camp and Tumwater’s Ella Ferguson yielded just four total base hits and one earned run, but the Bobcats pushed across the fateful score in the top of the fifth when the T-Birds’ throw back into the infield after a flyout went wild, letting a runner score from second to make it 3-2.

That would be enough for Camp to work with. Tumwater got its two runs in the bottom of the third, when a walk and an error set the table for Kylie Waltermeyer to drive a 2-RBI triple to left.

After that, though, Camp retired 12 straight batters. Tumwater put runners on the corners with two outs in the bottom of the seventh with Waltermeyer coming back to bat, but the senior flew out to end the game.

Ferguson went all seven innings in the circle for the Thunderbirds, giving up three unearned runs on two hits and six walks. She struck out 13.

Tumwater is set to go to Rochester on Wednesday.
