Weather Experiment Wednesday: An explosive way to cool off!

    2024-06-12

TULSA, Okla. — In this month’s Weather Experiment Wednesday, Director of Education, Chip Lindsey, shows us how the collision of cold and hot fluids can create a large reaction.

In the atmosphere, a cold air mass impinging upon warm air can create explosive thunderstorm growth on the front.

In the case of our experiment, we bring the two liquids together to create a large, gaseous cloud that induces fast upward motion and even some “rain.”  While this cannot be directly replicated at home, you can pour hot water over dry ice to create a similar effect!
