TULSA, Okla. — A man is in jail after police say he kidnapped, assaulted and raped a woman in north Tulsa.

Joe Martinez was booked into Tulsa County Jail on charges of kidnapping and raping a female victim.

According to a police report, on March 22, the victim was walking alone near Pine and Peoria when Martinez started walking alongside her. Martinez stopped on the corner of Lewis and Newton and invited the victim inside, where he immediately locked the door.

Martinez told the victim he wanted to have sex and the victim tried to escape. Martinez proceeded to punch her and threatened to kill her if she tried to leave again. The victim was bleeding from the face.

The report says Martinez, who the victim said appeared to be high, took her phone and proceeded to rape and strangle her.

Police say later another woman entered the house, who told police she saw Martinez, her boyfriend's nephew, inside with the victim. She told police she had only known Martinez for three days and he had just been released from prison.

Martinez left. The victim also left the house and flagged down police, who saw the blood on her face and shirt.

Police later arrested Martinez after a suspicious person call matched his description. The victim identified Martinez as the suspect who kidnapped, assaulted and raped her. Police say he had the victim's phone when they arrested him.

The victim was transported to the emergency room due to pain from the assault.

Martinez, a convicted felon, is in Tulsa County Jail. He's due in court on April 1.
