One Hope Tulsa opened its annual Project 61 Sports and Arts Camp on June 6 at the historic Rose Bowl.
The event is from June 6-9, 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for school-age kids.
The camp is free of charge and provides free transportation. It is staffed by the One Hope team and volunteers who are trained in trauma-responsive kids ministry.
Other staff members include college athletes, college and high school coaches, experienced artists, and others with similar skill sets.
The purpose of Project 61 is to allow kids to explore different extracurricular activities in a safe environment.
Kids are given the opportunity to choose which activities they are interested in and are encouraged to learn something new in sports and arts.
“Project 61 is a free sports and arts camp that seeks to provide access to all of the kids in our community and then strives to make sure they have not only access, but that they know they are valued," said One Hope Tulsa President Joe Blankenship. "We know that many kids and families are struggling and having hope matters greatly. Project 61 gives hundreds of Tulsa's kids an opportunity to try over a dozen different sports and arts at no cost to their families. We're excited to provide these opportunities and help them imagine a brighter future. Hope gives birth to more hope. Everyone needs that and at P61 hope giving is our main gift.”
Project 61 has happened annually for the past 18 years and continues to foster community development in Tulsa.
