If you have an unpaid parking or traffic ticket in Tulsa, you’re in luck.
The city is offering amnesty for outstanding fines over the next two weeks.
“People can come in and take care of their tickets for speeding and stuff that would have a warrant or a late fee on it, and we waive the late fee and warrant fee,” deputy court administrator Tammy Osborne said. “We do have the parking amnesty going on too, starting Monday through the 16th,” she added. “Anyone with parking tickets can come in and pay their parking tickets with no penalty.”
Osborne said it’s very important for the city to have a program like this.
“It helps people that have to work Monday through Friday,” she said. “You’ve got a single mother out there that has tickets. She can’t afford to pay them. It might give them a time to come in where they can actually come in and not have to pay for daycare.”
While the idea is noble, Osborne said the turnout so far has been lower than expected.
“But it’s still helping some people, and they were glad that we were here,” she said.
Osborne said only about 25 people came out the first day, she hopes more will come to the Tulsa Municipal Court to take part in the coming weeks.
“It benefits the city because it helps the citizens,” she said.
The parking ticket amnesty will happen during business hours on business days the next two weeks.
Traffic ticket amnesty will happen again on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
