Dr. Preston Phillips' legacy is living on through a charity he helped start.
The charity, Light in the World Development Foundation, provides medical supplies and life-saving surgeries in West Africa.
Dr. Phillips was weeks away from going on a medical mission when he was killed on June 1, 2022.
Dr. Komi Folly says one of the most challenging parts was having to tell the children who Phillips had operated on and developed a bond with.
"It has been hard, and knowing that he's no longer there, but what can we do about it? We can't just be crying all day. We have to move forward. That's what he would like us to do and that's what we have been doing so far. We have been able to do three medical missions," he said.
Dr. Folly is honoring his friend and mentor by continuing the work they started together.
