Clarehouse To Hold Special Walk And Run Event This Weekend

Clarehouse is holding a special walk and run this Saturday.

Clarehouse provides end of life care to terminally ill people who need more help than what they might be able to receive while at home.

Clarehouse's mission involves a lot of support and education to help people make the most of every moment they have with loved ones. The run and walk will not only bring awareness for end-of-life care, but it will also show that no one needs to walk their final days alone.

This is the first year that Clarehouse is putting on the run, after event coordinator Julie Courcier put it on by herself last year and donated the proceeds to Clarehouse. Courcier hopes that this run and walk will get people to start talking about end-of-life care.

"There’s so many people who don’t know about it and then so many people who are not prepared for that end of life, so I hope this year to spread that message of I don’t just want to raise funds for Clarehouse. I want people to embrace the moment and the joy of being together," Courcier said.

Kelley Scott, the executive director of Clarehouse, said that she hopes this run and walk will provide a stress-free environment for people to learn more about end-of-life care.

"Serious illness is so difficult to discuss. It’s difficult to navigate, and a lot of people just don’t want to think about it until it hits them and then they are not prepared. So we want to offer people that opportunity to talk about it in a time when they are not stressed, and they are not overwhelmed," Scott said.

The run and walk will take place on Saturday, June 3 at 7 a.m. at Tulsa Runner near 96th and Riverside and will continue down the River Parks Trails. Runners and walkers can register for a 5K, 10K, or 15K online here.
