Water features at Gathering Place are now up and running, just in time to kick off Memorial Day Weekend with a splash.
Starting today, Gathering Place is offering free kayak and pedal boat services on Peggy's Pond.
“We have some new operating hours, so the park will be opening from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., in addition to all of our water features open today," said Sydney Brown, Gathering Place marketing specialist, .
Gathering Place is opening several attractions, one of the most popular being its pedal boat and kayak services.
“The free boat rides will be every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.," said Brown.
If you are between the ages of 5 to 13, you must be accompanied by an adult. Service animals are also welcome. The boat rides are roughly 30 minutes.
“It's free, so if people come over to ONEOK Boathouse, they can go to the lower level and they will get all checked in and signed up and get a life jacket, and they get to rent a free boat," said Brown.
Last year the City of Tulsa posted a rendering on Facebook, showing the progress of a new lake that’s being constructed right next to Gathering Place.
It will have whitewater rapids for kayakers and will be separated from the main part of the river by an island.
At that time, Mayor G.T. Bynum said the city was on pace to open it in summer 2023, but now city officials confirm the dam will open Labor Day 2024.
