Hundreds of Tulsans got their fix of fresh food and family-friendly activity at the Tulsa Farmers’ Market for its 26th season opening in Kendall-Whittier.

The market now runs every Saturday from 7-11 a.m. through October 21st, then continues through the fall and winter with adjusted hours.

It's Danyelle Hand's first time getting a taste of the Tulsa Farmers' Market.

Everything is so tempting that had she brought a wagon she might break the bank.

"It'd be full by the time I left," said Danyelle Hand.

She loves shopping locally.

"I have a small business myself so I'm always trying to support other small businesses," said Hand.

Executive Director Kris Hutto said eating local is good for you, the environment and the economy.

"If we want farming and ranching to continue we have to invest in it and vote with our dollar," said Kris Hutto, Executive Director.

If you come hungry you'll leave full and speaking of full the place was packed. There's just about anything you can think of. They've got toffee, they've got eggs, jam, and the list goes on and on.

Mama Maple never misses the market.

"I've been an herbalist for over five years. I studied in the Appalachian Mountains but I'm originally from Tulsa and after living in the mountains I moved back and started up this business," said Tasha Powell, Mama Maple.

The Tulsa Farmers' Market has more than 100 vendors including 16 new ones.

"Since we moved from this location to Cherry Street, the market has had so much opportunity to expand and the location has been so great because it allows more people from more parts of the city to be able to come together and have access to it," said Sarah Allen, Mama Maple.

It's the first market in Oklahoma to accept SNAP benefits, and their snap redemption was up 88 percent last year.

"We feel like the Farmers' Market and fresh local food is for everybody," said Hutto.

They're working with the Foodbank of Eastern Oklahoma to help fight food insecurity.

"Any food that may be left over, any produce that is left over will not go into the landfill. It will be absorbed by the food bank," said Hutto.
