Multiple Cars Set On Fire At Apartment Complex; TFD Investigates

Tulsa Fire Investigators are trying to figure out who caused four cars to go up in flames at an East Tulsa Apartment complex.

Investigators believe one of the cars caught fire, then the high winds set the other three on fire.

A witness said he had just gotten home from work when he heard the sound of power tools outside, then heard a boom. He looked outside and saw flames.

The witness, Jose Gonzales, shared cell phone video with News On 6 of the fire. His apartment is just feet away from where the four cars burned at the Madison Park Apartments.

"A little bit before that I heard a truck peel off so I think it was set intentionally, but you never know,” said Gonzales.

Tulsa firefighters said they got seven 911 calls and witnesses told them they also heard power tools and arguing beforehand.

"Cars don't set fire to themselves, so if they were parked and no one was operating them, it is reasonable to believe that someone may have done something to cause this to set fire,” said Andy Little with the Tulsa Fire Department.

Crews said it's possible someone may have been trying to cut off a catalytic converter and started the fire.

"We were told by one of the 911 callers that a white vehicle sped away from the scene, potentially a Honda,” said Little.

Fire investigators have been talking to neighbors, hoping to get a lead.

"It seems like we've had a lot of fires, a lot of arson related fires in the area in the last few weeks. We have a commitment to protecting the citizens and we won't tolerate it,” said Little.
