Tulsa Earns Spot On List Of 'Best Places To Get Married' By WalletHub

Tulsa is one of the top three "Best Places to Get Married" according to WalletHub. The report compared more than 180 cities based on average wedding cost, facilities and services available, as well as area attractions.

Bronwyn Spain is the co-owner and creative director of Spain Ranch, a locally-owned venue in Tulsa. She said they do traditional weddings but specialize in destination weddings, weekday weddings and elopements.

Spain Ranch opened in 2004 but did not start hosting weddings until about ten years later. Bronwyn said she and her husband decided to take the leap and build two barns on the property: a white barn and a black barn.

She said the black barn is very different from any other venue in the country, making it a popular choice for destination brides. Bronwyn said couples have come from places like New York, California, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Texas to tie the knot at Spain Ranch. They have also had visitors from all over the world.

"We have had entire families come in from places like Nigeria, Brazil, Spain, everywhere in the United Kingdom, Japan, so it is a regular thing for us which is really great to be able to show off Oklahoma to people who may not really know what Oklahoma is like," she added.

Bronwyn said through this experience she has learned there are a few reasons why people choose Oklahoma for their destination wedding; it is something different, it allows for smaller guest lists which cut costs for the bride and groom, and weddings are cheaper than in most other states.

"You can have, easily, a six-figure wedding on the East and West Coast and here you can have the exact equivalent and there are wonderful vendors here, top-notch, internationally recognized for $30,000 to $40,000," she continued saying, "It is a crazy price difference, and you can still have your dream wedding, your dream venue, dream photographer, florist, and all of that."

Bronwyn said the emphasis on hospitality is also a big draw for couples.

"You are going to have a really unique experience, you are going to feel very loved and taken care of when you book with us, when you book with other vendors in the area, and when you use local restaurants for your rehearsal dinner," she said. "I think people are really going to love feeling like they are the only couple that has ever got married underneath those vendors."
