Oral Roberts University officially introduced Russell Springmann as the 12th head coach for the men's basketball team.
Springmann told NewsChannel 8 about how different his life was before he arrived at ORU.
He worked a second job window washing to make some extra money and provide for his family.
When Springmann saw the opportunity to coach at ORU, he went for it and joined the program under Paul Mills in 2018.
Now, the Golden Eagles team is nationally recognized as a high-level mid-major program.
Because of recent success, the commitment to new facilities, and the increasing competition, expectations for the team increased.
Springmann, however, said he's not deterred.
For Springmann's introduction as the new head coach, a ceremony was held featuring some surprises.
Rich Barnes, who coached with Springmann in Texas, surprised him with a video statement during the ceremony.
Kevin Durant, a former Texas Thunder Star basketball player, gave a statement as well.
Durant said he is "definitely a fighter for coach...a great basketball mind".
"He will be a great leader for the Oral Roberts community on campus for years to come," he said.
