The City of Tulsa plans to settle a lawsuit filed on behalf of Tulsa firefighters who sued for unpaid overtime.
In Tulsa IAFF Local 176 President Matt Lay's statement sent to firefighters, Lay said the city's payment would be $1,060,000.
NewsChannel 8 asked Tulsa City Councilor Jayme Fowler if he feels the firefighters who filed the suit were wronged by the city.
"Yes, they were, and it was not out of something that was mean spirited or over. It was just kind of a confluence of events," said Fowler.
Fowler said the 2021 ransomware attack on the city played a role in the issue.
"From that, you know, the city learned, you know, some, some hard tough lessons about how things function and how things operate," he said.
The City of Tulsa shared this statement:
The case is still pending, but the City will be working diligently to address payments and has put safeguards in place to prevent this from happening in the future.
Lay declined an interview since the settlement is not official.
When asked if the union was happy with the proposed settlement, Lay declined to comment.
