A Tulsa woman became an international viral celebrity for her fashion and faith.
On Sunday, she celebrated the launch of her new book detailing her life and experiences.
"It took over a year and a half to get it done. But now that it's done, I'm so excited and so grateful that it is," Dr. La Verne Ford Wimberly said.
Wimberly said her gratitude began during the height of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
Most churches shifted to virtual services including her own, Metropolitan Baptist Church.
Wimberly decided to plan out coordinated church clothes and took selfies each Sunday morning to lift her and other Oklahomans' spirits. She wore unique outfits, most notably different types of hats, 52 Sundays in a row.
"My intention was just not to become depressed because it was something we had not faced in our lifetime. I didn't realize it was turning into something big until after I had the first interview with Kim Jackson Hilliard," she said.
Wimberly said a previous interview with former News Channel 8 anchor Kim Jackson was the starting point for the national and international attention she received.
"From Kim, to CBS with Gayle King, and from there Cathy Free with the Washington Post, and after that it just went all over the world including England, Canada, all across the United States," she said.
Wimberly said she's done at least 60 interviews and has received gifts from people who have been inspired by her story.
She said she was hesitant to explore that story further in her new book, but after some convincing, realized there was more of her story to tell.
"Regardless of age you can have an impact on the world depending on what you're doing and how you're presenting yourself," said Wimberly.
Wimberly's book "My Sunday Best" features stories and life lessons she hopes will inspire others.
