The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) arrested Melanie Crossman, her partner Johnny Thompson and their son Alex Thompson for allegedly stealing more than $140,000 from Crossman’s elderly mother.

Tulsa County Deputy Richie Gonzales helped arrest the three suspects.

"There's something that always tells the story, and it's going to be those bank account statements." Gonzales said.

He said Crossman was her mother's caretaker and claimed the money was spent on care after her mother suffered a stroke.

"You can create an excuse for anything, but the story's really told in what's being spent," Gonzales said.

He said the crime happened over the course of seven months.

"Just in August alone, it looks like possibly, maybe $150 might have been spent on their care, when $34,000 was spent on other things," he added.

Things like vacations, cruise ship tickets, cable and utilities for three different households.

He said the grandson also had a CashApp connected to the woman's account.

"All three suspects were not, did not, have gainful employment either, so this was their method of living," Gonzales said.

Gonzales said the case was brought to his attention by Adult Protective Services.

"They need to understand, 'Okay I might be getting by with this for a little bit now, but there's going to be a time where you're going to have to answer to the criminal justice system.'"

He said the arrests were made possible through the partnership between TCSO, Adult Protective Services and the District Attorney's Office.
