Jack Daniel’s launched its annual “Barrel Tree” sale, which will help junior-enlisted service members and their families travel home for the holidays. Barrels of each of the 12 Jack Daniel’s “Barrel Trees” currently on display across the country will be sold for $150 each beginning today at operationridehome.com. All proceeds will benefit the brand’s “Operation Ride Home” program in partnership with the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), which has helped nearly 13,000 people travel home – including this year’s travelers – and raised nearly $3 million since 2011. Men and women from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, Space Force and Coast Guard have been assisted with travel to all 50 states.

Thursday, December 7, 2023 the official groundbreaking ceremony for the New Coffee County Animal Control building was held. Coffee County Mayor, Judd Matheny was joined by Coffee County Commissioners Dennis Hunt, Jimmy Hollandsworth and Frank Watkins, Sally Berryman, Hazel Fanin, and Debbie Burns with the Coffee County Humane Society, Mr. and Mrs. Rice (benefactors that donated the land for the building), and Director of Coffee County Animal Control, Craig Boyd.

The ground was officially broken on Thursday afternoon on the new Coffee County Animal Shelter that will open sometime in 2024. Coffee County Mayor Judd Matheny told On Target News that the county contributed $500,000 toward the shelter to be built at 3292 Hillsboro Hwy. He added that another $1 million in donations have been pledged. The mayor said Tom and Karen Rice with CFC Recycling donated the land valued at $290,000. St. John Engineering is the architect and will design the new complex.

Due to the forecast of rain, the Lynchburg Christmas Parade has been rescheduled for 5:30 p.m. MONDAY. Line up will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Monday. As of Friday night, the other activities set for downtown were still on schedule for Saturday although horse and buggy rides were cancelled.
