EAGAN, MINNESOTA - Two people were arrested in the City of Eagan, Minnesota, during the execution of a search warrant that resulted in multiple drug-related felony charges on Tuesday, November 28, 2023. The culmination of a several-month-long narcotics investigation started in April 2023, headed by a detective in the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office and a Southeast Minnesota Violent Crime Enforcement Team member. The final result was the arrest of Teresa Arellano of Eagan, Minnesota, and Eliseo Romo of St Paul, Minnesota, who both were charged with four separate felonies and the seizure of 17.196 pounds of methamphetamine and 13,500 pills of Oxycodone.

Migrants will move out of the Raddison Hotel at 4849 Bannock Street in District 9 and traditionally unhoused people will move in under a plan by the mayor’s office. Denver homelessness czar Cole Chandler briefed the City Council on the hotel master lease during Tuesday’s mayor-council meeting. The city plans to master lease the hotel from Quebec Hospitality Inc. for $10.4 million through Dec. 31, 2024. The city has been leasing blocks of rooms. Quebec Hospitality Inc. also owns the Comfort Inn off Quebec where migrants have been staying.

Several people experiencing homelessness and those who support them told the City Council Monday that encampment sweeps in harsh weather must stop. They spoke in support of an ordinance that would disallow sweeps when the temperature dips below 32 degrees. “I have been out there and have watched,” said Richard Creswell during public comment period. “No one can find their gloves.” He said encampment sweepers shake the tents of the unhoused early in the morning, telling them to pack up and get out. He said sometimes crews will use a Bobcat poised to bulldoze a tent to get people to move faster. “They say if you don’t do this, we’re going to throw away your tent.” Creswell said campers often grab the frozen tent poles with their bare hands, which feel like they’re burning. “It’s really cruel.”

Homeless: Stop encampment sweeps in cold Denver weather

Aurora City Council member Danielle Jurinsky said Monday that Denver Mayor Mike Johnston is bussing migrants into Aurora and buying them hotel rooms. Jurinsky made the revelation toward the end of the meeting during council report period. “I have a report that I would like to bring to the people of Aurora,” Jurinsky said. She went on to explain how Denver, a so-called sanctuary city, is bussing migrants out of its boundaries and into Aurora. She said one of her employees who was living at the Quality Inn at Mississippi and Abilene was tossed onto the street because of the incoming migrants. Jurinsky alleged the contract with the hotel doesn’t even have Denver City Council approval yet. She said the mayor must have thought this would fly under the radar. “Little did they ever think there would be an employee of a sitting council member” displaced. She called her employees “hard-working American citizens.” She said her employee and his husband lived at the hotel with their service animal for about a year.

Denver bussing migrants to Aurora, council member Jurinsky alleges

When I write about the migrants from Venezuela, it doesn’t take long for the mean comments to pile up. But the migrants aren’t going anywhere. In fact, a near record-setting 419 migrants streamed into Denver Friday and Saturday alone, according to the city’s online migrant dashboard. The city is sheltering more than 3,000 migrants in non-city buildings, such as hotels and motels, according to the dashboard. Thirty-five are sheltered in city buildings. And growing numbers of migrants are sleeping on the streets, according to city officials.
