Detroit 75 Kitchen, a well-known food truck on Fort Street near Clark and Interstate 75, is opening a second location, this one a brick-and-mortar spot in Troy. The new location for the popular establishment, which is known for its variety of sandwiches, smoked chicken and addictive garlic cilantro fries, is the former Sears Auto Center on 14 Mile and I-75.

Chef Mike Nassar, co-owner of the business with brother Ahmad, announced the second location in an Instagram post last week.  He hailed the location as one that fits in with the brothers' goals and mission.

"We are looking for underprivileged areas and well-deserving communities," Mike Nassar said on Instagram. "We are definitely not looking for a shiny diamond."

Nassar also said people can expect a full-service spot with the same offerings as the southwest Detroit location. He also noted that Sears is "where Craftsmen started. ... It's America's tool."

Detroit 75 Kitchen opened in 2014 and has become one of metro Detroit's most popular food trucks. This year, it was added to the food lineup at Comerica Park. Mike Nassar said in his Instagram post that the establishment has been "recognized to be the No. 3 food truck in the nation and a top 100 places to eat in the U.S."

Ahmad Nassar noted parallels between the brothers' business and the Sears store that was once in the Troy location.

"We want to serve the blue-collar working-class people," he said. "The history of the building is there and we want to tap into it, and there is no reason the building should be closed for that long. "

Ahmad Nassar said a tentative opening is set for July.

He said Detroit 75 Kitchen will be the official food truck of the upcoming PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic. It will serve Detroit-style cheesesteaks, strawberry lemonade and barbecue chicken egg rolls.

Hours at the new Troy location will be the same as those in southwest Detroit: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday-Friday.
