TROY (WWJ) -- A 54-year-old man from out-of-state is facing a drunken driving charge after he was pulled over last week in Oakland County.

Troy Police said the driver, from Kansas City, Kansas, was stopped for speeding in a 2008 Chrysler Aspen just after 3 p.m. Thursday, May 25, in the area of Big Beaver Rd. and Rochester Rd. in Troy.

When officers spoke with the man they learned that his driver's license had been suspended.

After getting permission from the driver to search the vehicle, officers said they found two cases of beer on the passenger seat, and an open beer in the backseat.

One of the cases was open, according to police, and 13 beers were missing from the package.

Police said the driver was asked to perform several field sobriety evaluations, and did comply, but he "performed poorly."

After the man allegedly blew a .122% BAC (blood alcohol concentration) on a breathalyzer test he was taken into custody.

The driver was booked at the Troy Police Lock-Up where he agreed to submit to a Chemical Breath Test with results of .09% and .09% BAC, police said. That's just over the legal limit of .08% for driving under Michigan law.

The man was issued a citation for Operating While Intoxicated.

His name was not released.
