TROY (WWJ) – A Detroit man has been charged with operating while intoxicated after an apparent fight with a woman in his car led to a traffic stop in Troy earlier this month.

Around 11:15 p.m. on May 14 Troy police officers saw a 2023 BMW M340XI stopped in the middle of the exit from a restaurant near the intersection of Big Beaver and Crooks Roads with the passenger side door open.

The man behind the wheel and a female passenger appeared to be fighting and the woman was trying to exit the car, according to Troy police officials.

As officers turned around in the parking lot, the passenger door quickly shut and the vehicle exited onto Big Beaver Road, officials said.

Officers then pulled behind the BMW and initiated a traffic stop. When officers spoke to the driver, a 34-year-old Detroit man, his speech was slurred and his eyes were glassy and bloodshot. Police could smell alcohol coming from the car.

The man and woman both told officers their argument was only verbal and no physical assault occurred.

The driver failed several sobriety evaluations and he blew a .115 BAC on a preliminary breath test. He was arrested and taken to the Troy Police Lock-Up Facility, where chemical tests returned results of .10%.

Authorities have not released the man’s name, but said he was cited for operating while intoxicated.
