Traffic calming seen around Oak Park
Across Oak Park, some intersections look different than they did a year ago. White poles (often referred to as paint-and-post infrastructure) have been installed, extending curbs and narrowing intersections. More recently, triangular traffic diverters have also been placed at numerous intersections within the village, restricting movement to allow only right turns. (See the map at right for locations of proposed and existing traffic diverters within Oak Park; many of the proposed diverters have since been installed).

110-year-old Chicago bridge overhaul triggers shutdown of Green and Pink Line trains across downtown
As many may already know, the Lake Street Bridge in Chicago is fully closed to vehicles and pedestrians —and it won’t reopen anytime soon. The major rehabilitation project for the bridge , built in 1916, is scheduled for completion in January 2028, meaning the bridge will be closed for another full year (and 3 months… but who’s counting?) While this closure primarily affects buses, cars, and pedestrians, it will also temporarily impact the CTA . The good news? It’s only for a short period. The CTA Green and Pink Line trains on the L tracks that cross the bridge will undergo a planned service outage between Clinton and Clark/Lake stations from October 13 to 26, 2026, for new leaf installation. According to the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) , crews will replace one of the Lake Street Bridge’s movable spans with a new section built off-site and floated into place on the Chicago River, requiring a temporary halt to Green and Pink Line trains that cross its upper deck. The work is expected to be completed by 4 a.m. on October 26. CTA Green and Pink Line trains: service change Oct. 13-26 Green Line: Trains will operate between Harlem/Lake and
